This Week’s Articles of Interest
It’s a new week – and another chance to make great things happen in your life and your business. Here’s a list of articles I found that seemed especially helpful to me, and I hope they help you as well.
I’ve used Google as my search engine of choice for years now, but I am still learning to make the results better. Here are some great tips to use when searching Google from the Work At Home Life blog.
Are you using Google Analytics? If not, this video is a great place to start to get the basics. If you are, watch anyway and see if you can learn some helpful hints.
I’ve heard it from several clients – “I know I should be using Twitter, but I don’t want to talk about what I had for lunch and I don’t have the time for it”. While Twitter is not right for every small business, this article from Small Business Trends of 80 ways for small businesses to use Twitter should provide at least a handful of ways you can use (or improve your use of) Twitter. If nothing else, you should be tracking what others are saying about you, your business and your industry.
Google Wave – have you tried it yet? I’m on there, but haven’t really been able to find much to do on it, but this article gives a great list of 20 ways to use the Wave. How many of these would be helpful in your business…or personal life.
If you found any interesting/useful articles this past week, please share in the comments. And go make it a great day!
This Week’s Articles Of Interest – New Year edition
Out with the old (2009) and in with the new (2010)!! To celebrate the New Year, I’ve rounded up some articles to help end one year and begin another.
STACK the Deck in Your Favor™ Strategic Marketing Plan by Cathy Larkin (@cathywebsavvypr) looks awesome. By using the acronym STACK for the steps needed to create a strategic marketing plan, you have no excuse for not working on this now.
I’ve spent time this past week finding images and words to put on my vision board for 2010. This is my third year to do one, and I am exciting to see what develops. Jonathan Fields (@jonathanfields) has an excellent article about how to do visualization with a different intent that is giving me a lot to think about as I set my intents for 2010. Anyone else is making a vision board for the new year?
List of the Words of the Year 2009, many of them from social media and technology. How many do you know? How many do you use on a regular basis??
And for some fun stuff:
Here are some of the worst analogies written in high school essays. Funny, and somewhat painful, to read.
If Shakespeare just wasn’t your thing (or even if he was), you’ll enjoy Romeo and Juliet: Just as You Misremembered It. I heard this story on NPR, and the excerpts they played were hysterical. I hope they take this show on the road, or someone in Memphis performs it.

This Week’s Articles Of Interest
I am late getting the post up this week. It was almost ready to go, and then I got a phone call which pulled me in a completely different direction. So…I am now back on track. Better late than never!
Here are the articles and blog posts that caught my attention this week:
I’ve used Google Calendar for a couple of years, and I don’t even want to think about living without it! However, there is still a lot I can learn to use it more efficiently, and this Mashable article is a great place to start.
This article points out mistakes to avoid when sending email. Be sure and read the comments as well, as they contain even more mistakes. What else would you add to the list?
Trying to get going on Twitter? One thing to do to connect with more people is to get retweeted, and according to Dan Zarella, there is a science to it. Check out this post on Mashable for some clues on improving your retweet rate
Yes, it is another list of blogs that are helpful to business owners to read. No, I have no idea when I’ll find the time check these out, but it looks to be an awesome list. Maybe I’ll try to check out a couple each day – eventually I’ll work my way through them. Let me know which ones you find valuable.
There’s this weeks list. Leave a comment and share what articles and blog posts you took notice of this week.
This Week’s Articles Of Interest
This has not been the best month for me. Oh, nothing horrible or disastrous has happened, and for that I am very grateful. However, for all of the planning I’ve done, very little of it is happening. Real life has temporarily taken over and I am not making progress on my business – and specifically my blog – like I want to. Fortunately, tomorrow is another day, and next week is another month, and I will keep trying.
I did find some very interesting articles on the web this week. Here’s this week’s round-up:
Top 5 Business Blogging Mistakes – are you making any of them? You may be, because they are easy to do, so take a look and see what you can change to get better results.
Also from Mashable, a guide to setting up a Facebook Page for your business. If you don’t have one, this will get you started. If you do have one, see what tips you can learn to make it better!
Once again, Seth Godin has provided excellent information that is really making me think about how to market my business and that of my clients.
Still not sure if Twitter can help your small business? Think it can help but not sure how to start? Take a look at this article to see how one small business used Twitter to grow and expand their business.
And once you do get on Twitter, you need to find ways to manage it. This article on Time Saving Twitter Tools from TargetStars blog provides a nice round-up of twitter tools. Be sure to check out the comments on that post for more suggestions.
Those are just a few of the articles and blog posts I found interesting this week. What caught your attention? Please share in the comments!
This Week’s Articles Of Interest
It’s been a busy week at GS Business Resources, but I’ve still come across some excellent information on the internet that I want to share. Take a look:
Anatomy of a Successful Small Business Blog is a great article on how small businesses can benefit from a blog and lots of tips to help you find topics and craft the post. I’ve bookmarked this to refer back to often.
What is the difference between WordPress.org and WordPress.com? Watch “Julia Child” in this hysterical video to learn more! And then read the rest of the post for more details.
FYI – I have a more positive view of WordPress.com than in the video and post. It was a great way for me to get a blog/website for my business going without having the expense (however minimal) and worry of hosting when I started last spring. I am moving over to WordPress.org because I want to take the next step and have more flexibility on my site. I know this is not the best way to go for every business, but for some it can be a great option.
I keep trying to tell clients and potential clients about the things they could begin doing online to connect with their current and potential customers. Often I feel like I’m talking to myself, so I think I’ll begin refering them to Chris Brogan’s excellent post. By the way, how many of these are you doing today? Which one could you add?
Redoing your website? As I mentioned, I’m in the process of moving my site and blog from WordPress.com to WordPress.org and while most of it will remain the same, these are some great questions from Seth Godin for me to keep in mind as I redo and update.
That’s my list for this week. What articles/blog posts have you found that you took note of? Please share them in the comments!
