Fans Adding Photos To Fan Pages

Facebook fan pages are a great way for businesses and fans (currently called “likers”) to connect and interact. And a great way to do this is to add fan photos, especially ones related to the business and its events.

Adding fan photos is quick and easy to do, but isn’t explained very well. So, here’s a tutorial to get you started!

  1. Log into Facebook, and go to the fan page you want to post photos on.

  2. At the top of the wall is the box where you can post a message. At the bottom it says “Attach:” and has icons to click on for links and photos.

  3. Click the photo link, and select “Upload a Photo”.

  4. Select the image(s) you want from your computer.

  5. Add in any message you want to put with it.

  6. Click “Share” and the photo is posted to the pages Wall, and will also go to the Fan Photos section. It may take it a minute to appear in the Fan Photos, but it will.

One important reminder to fan page admins – you have to give permission for fans to be able to post their photos. To do this, go to wall page, and click “Edit Page” link under the logo in the upper left corner. Under “Wall Settings” go to “Fan Permissions” and check “Fans can write or post content to the wall”, then check the boxes underneath for photos, videos, and links. I have heard that ALL boxes have to be checked for any one of the to work, but I cannot confirm this. You can try checking just the ones you want and see if it works.

Does this work for everyone? If not, let me know and I’ll try to find a solution.

Now, go post some photos!!

Linked In Profile: Are You Missing This Opportunity?

Linked In logoLinked In is a social networking site, focused on making professional contacts instead of personal ones. While it is a great resource for anyone job hunting, small business owners can use it to show expertise and experience to potential clients.

Do you have a profile on Linked In? If you do, are you taking full advantage of it?

Linked In is a way to put your work experience online. The rule for keeping paper resumes short still holds, but with Linked In you have all the room you need to list a detailed work history, and include special assignments, side projects, and volunteer work that might not make it onto the paper resume. Summarize your experience and list your specialties in those sections to let viewers get a quick overview of your background and knowledge.

Don’t think anyone reads it? Think again. I recently did work for a client where I researched people with a certain job skill. How can I determine if you have and use this skill if you don’t list what your job actually entails? Job titles are helpful, but can vary between businesses, so a list of your job duties, qualifications earned, and areas you’ve gained expertise in are very important.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity. Someone searching for certain words or phrases won’t find you if you don’t have them listed in your profile.

As 2009 draws to a close, end the year by looking at all your social media profiles and updating those that need it. Complete your Linked In profile; update your Twitter bio; make sure you’re not tagged on unwanted photos on Facebook. You only get one chance to make a first impression – make sure it is a good one.

And while you are working on your Linked In profile, why not connect with me there? My profile is http://www.linkedin.com/in/gladysbstrickland, and yes, it is being updated over the next week!

This Week’s Articles of Interest

At last – the return of This Week’s Articles of Interest! I’ve found several gerat articles around the internet, and I hope they are of help to you.

So, to begin this week’s round up – Facebook Fan pages. Thinking about having a Facebook fan page for your business? Well, you should, and these articles by Lisa Call can help get you started. Do I Need A Facebook Fan Page and Facebook Fan Page Practical Tips

And a good reminder to me that I really need to work on mine.

I do read instruction manuals, and I really wish this one had been available when I began blogging last spring. I’d been trying to get blog posts up for a couple of months when I FINALLY sat down and asked myself “who am I writing this for?” Once I could answer that question, ideas for posts came rather easily. Time to actually write them is another matter, but I often get ideas out of nowhere for blog posts – and I know they’ll work because I know who I’m writing for. So, to help you get started with your blogging, here’s a blogging instruction manual to get you started.

This one isn’t an article, but an entire new website. Designed to help businesses navigate the world of social media, I’ve bookmarked it and am sending it out to clients and potential clients who just aren’t sure what this twitter thing is all about or why a blog might help them. This has the potential to be a great resources, so be sure to check out the Social Media Examiner.

Here’s a great story of how one person started his business and used Twitter to get it going.

Check out this article gives tips and ideas to manage your social media. And I will add that if are still confused and overwhelmed, consider hiring a virtual assistant to help with it. They can help you set up a system to manage on your own, or that can take over management of it and free up your time for other matters.

Is your inbox overflowing? Sadly, mine is. I’m trying to take 5-10 minutes each day to work on cleaning it out; however, this article give great suggestions for taking care of email as it comes in. This means you don’t have to do the clean-out like I currently am – what a time savings! Again, you can always hire a virtual assistant to set up or take over this task.

To end this week’s Articles of Interest, something fun. Who better than Calvin and Hobbs to explain the way business works. Enjoy this one – it is priceless!

Thanks for reading this week’s Articles of Interest. Please leave a comment with a link to anything interesting you have seen.
